Our first stop of the day is Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. We disembark and continue our Journey on foot with the guide in order to get into close proximity of the Rhinos in the wild of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary which covers many areas and is not only home to Rhinos but to a lot of other wildlife, birds including the elusive Shoe-bill Stork.
Most come here to track Rhinos on foot.
It is amazing time to see these massive animals so close and there are some great opportunities for picture-taking and most visitors get some great shots of the Rhinos in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
After our time with the Rhinos at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary we continue the short drive from here to Murchison River Lodge located on the southern bank of the River Nile overlooking Murchison Falls National Park where we check-in around lunch-time. Enjoy lunch – your first meal at Murchison River Lodge and it will prove to be simply a culinary delight and a treat for the eyes and palate. The food exceeds the qualities of many fine Kampala restaurants in the African wild of Murchison Falls along the historic River Nile.
Relax and enjoy the various facilities such as the swimming pool, or visit the Lion’s Den Craft Shop which is located in the car park. The local crafts you’ll see around the lodge and in the thatched cottages have been purchased from within Uganda and items such as: men on bicycles, wooden bird mobiles, sarongs, Uganda tourist maps and more can be found there. Wherever you turn you have a view of the River Nile bubbling by – wildlife such as Elephants, Hippos at times enter the Lodge area to the delight of the guests there.
Late afternoon guided Nature Walk with a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger – during this walk you most often see a variety of wildlife including Giraffes, antelopes, buffaloes, birds and much more.
Dinner and Overnight at Murchison River Lodge.

Enjoy a cup of coffee and you are off for your morning game drive – or enjoy breakfast before the morning game drive – the choice is yours – Game drives can be started at 6:30 am and you can see the morning mist on the Savannah as Sun rises for another day in the African Wild of Uganda at Murchison Falls National Park.
Another option that can be arranged is a bush breakfast for you – hopefully others will have signed up for this most meaningful time making the price per person more affordable since there is a lot of planning that goes into a creating a breakfast in the Bush. Those that go for the Bush Breakfast option find it as one of the highlights of their safari in the African Bush.
The four-wheel drive safari vehicle is equipped with a pop-up roof for best game viewing and on a game drive we always use a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger to enhance your time on a game drive which results in more wildlife sightings and great background to the habits and ways of the wildlife found on a game drive.
After Lunch at your Lodge you will go for the Launch cruise that will take you close to the bottom of the powerful waterfalls where sinister water flows from the slim gorge. You will have a chance to see the giant hippos and crocodiles, plus a profusion of water birds near the banks of the river making this a great birding safari. Head back to the lodge for your dinner and the night rest.
In the morning you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park After an early breakfast. Enjoy a game drive in the Kasenyi area of the park along the way to your accommodation. During the drive, you will be able to view and take photos of the Elephants, Lions, antelopes and buffalo among others. Check into your lodge and have a sumptuous lunch while enjoying the captivating Enganzi Game Lodge which is nestled on a hill bordering the Queen Elizabeth National Park and overlooking unspoiled bush in the cradle of western Ugandans magnificent wild.
After lunch at your lodge, you will enjoy a 2 hour boat ride along the Kazinga channel which is an oasis for many of the fascinating species that inhabit the park, and taking a boat tour along it gives visitors the chance to cruise just meters from hundreds of enormous hippos and buffalos while elephants linger on the shoreline.
Taking a cruise on the Kazinga Channel is among the highlights of Uganda safaris within Queen Elizabeth Park. the launch cruise offers great chances to take pictures since the boat drifts slowly just by the shores of the channel. The Kazinga Channel supports the biggest number of Hippos in the whole of Africa. Actually an adult male Hippopotamus weighs more compared to a fully loaded Land- Cruiser. Hippos don’t swim however they just bounce their bodies at the bottom of the water in which they are in.
They normally stay under water jut as you will notice in the Kazinga Channel so as to safe guard their rather sensitive skin, and actually if you took a night time cruise on the channel you will actually discover that there are not so many hippos since most of them will be grazing on-land.
Dinner and overnight at Enganzi lodge. Meal plan Full Board
After breakfast, drive south towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will leave the park through the Ishasha sector which is notably recognized for its resident Tree climbing lions that are an exceptional attraction and one among the highlights on all safaris taken within Queen Elizabeth National park.
It is somewhat uncommon for lions to actually climb trees. There are no more than 2 populations in whole world of such lions that do actually climb trees as one of their day after day behavior. One of these populations is found within the Ishasha sector which is found in the south part of the well known Queen Elizabeth National park within Uganda. The other population is found in Lake Manyara National Park in the Southern part of Tanzania.
In case you ever find yourself being chased by a lion, choosing to climb up into the trees as a way to escape from it will actually not help much especially within Queen Elizabeth National Park since these Lions have the ability to climb up into the trees. Actually they are commonly seen sleeping on branches in the afternoon as they digest their food after lunch.
In addition to the fascinating population of the Tree Climbing Lions within the Ishasha visitor will also come across huge buffalo herds, numerous antelopes that keep crossing your path. Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi in time for a late lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon resting and preparing for Gorilla tracking the next day.
After an early breakfast, head to the Headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for an orientation plus meeting the guides as well as separation into the groups basing on which gorilla group you are to be tracking. From there you will set off for your thrill experience of the Gorillas in the Mist. Hiking within this mysterious and wonderful forest offers quite a lot to see as you make your way to see the Mountain Gorillas. The wildlife including additional primates, butterflies, mammals and birds, will certainly be very beautiful and really enhance this extremely special experience.
The tracking / trekking can entail some thorough climbing as well as hiking although when you come face to face with the tranquil yet potent Mountain Gorillas, watching them only a few meters away from you observing the group, the baby with the mothers, the gorillas partaking their every day routine just right in front of you is all very overwhelming.
You can never find any mountain gorillas living in the zoo, save for just in this not large area of Africa where a number of the remnant mountain gorillas can be seen.
Luckily because of too many efforts, this population is thriving and well surviving within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and visitors get the opportunity of observing them at close proximity. Time permitting; thereafter visit the famous batwa community for a community and cultural experience. You will learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Batwa, from brewing of the local beer to medicines made from this very forest.
After healthy breakfast we will transfer to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for a mid-morning game drive that will take you to the Kazuma Look Out Point. Here you will enjoy the beautiful Sceneries of the lakes, swamps, the plains that run all the way to Tanzania and then the irresistible sunset! Lake Mburo offers the best opportunities for viewing the big Elands, Burchell Zebras, Topis, Buffaloes and Impalas. With roughly 310 species, birds are also well represented.
Among them are species whose breeding grounds are mainly characterized by the acacia trees, as well as water and swamp birds. The lake bearing the same name within the park attracts herds of hippos and crocodiles. The hedges of the embedded swamps hide the rare Sitatunga-antelope.
After lunch at your lodge, you will go for a boat ride that gives you the chance to view water animals like; Crocodiles, Hippopotamus and water birds including; Pelicans, Black crake and Herons. The wildlife-rich eastern banks of Lake Mburo can be explored during this tranquil two-hour boat voyage. Keep an eye out for buffaloes as well as colorful Kingfishers, magnificent Fish Eagles, Hammerkops and their enormous nests and even the prehistoric-looking Shoe-bill.
Start your day with an early breakfast which will prepare you for the adventurous day you are about to have! A horseback riding tour in the park is the best way to sample the wildlife and varying vegetation zones. Riding a horse allows you to get off the usual game tracks into the plains and closer to the wild animals that feel more comfortable around the horse than a safari vehicle.
This 2 hour ride will offer you a new way of watching wildlife up-close without scaring them off. Whether you are a leaner or experienced rider, you will definitely enjoy the rare experience of being around wild animals on top of a horse. Return to your lodge to rest your muscle from the strain of riding and have your lunch as well.
In the afternoon you will take a game drive along the track next to the lake-shore, where you will explore its unique network of game trails plus walkways including the “Kigambara Loop” which give amazing walks down the lake shore. Some of the animals you will see in this area include numerous zebras, cape buffaloes as well as elands, oribi plus topi which can easily be approached.
The network of game tracks in the east of the park passes a variety of landscape features; acacia woodland, wetlands, grassy hillsides, rock outcrops and seasonally flooded valley floors.
At dawn, rise up for a guided nature walk to Nakivale wet land (Ramsar site) or Rubanga forest enables you to see a number of bird species like Shoe bill, papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus yellow warbler, and red-faced Barbet. Later you will return to your accommodation for late breakfast. Take time to relax and reminisce your trip so far. Enjoy your lunch and leave for Kampala in the afternoon arriving in the evening.
