It is known worldwide – Africa is one of the most beautiful continents, but poverty is still rampant. Numerous social and charitable aid projects exist in all countries of Africa including East Africa. This part of the African continent is relatively peaceful with no wars, but unfortunately many problems still continue to exist. Uncontrolled increase in population, rising land and water shortages, growing veldt areas due to deforestation, and impoverishment of many districts, HIV/Aids (East Africa has the highest HIV/AIDS rate worldwide) and leprosy infected persons remain helpless in big numbers. Malaria- a curable disease claims many lives everyday and has certainly maintained its position as the number one killer disease in the region. Not forgetting the northern and north eastern regions of Uganda which have been completely set back and impoverished by a 20 year civil war with millions displaced, traumatised, uneducated and living in Internally Displaced Peoples camps (IDP’s)- many challenges have yet to be tackled….

The so called “developed world” has not closed its eyes though. Church based, international, national, as well as private initiated aid projects and humanitarian initiatives try to counter and go against these negative developments. Governments, Corporate organisations, Non-Government Organisations, Churches, Schools, Children’s Homes, Hospitals, Orphanages, to mention but a few contribute tirelessly in fighting these problems. In addition, countless institutions to protect women and abused children have been set up as well as integrative projects for rescued child soldiers.

Further hope for the future in poverty eradication is in sustainable tourism. This tendency has been highlighted and emphasised in the last few years. Tourism in conjunction with social engagement – is a very positive sign. More and more tourists do not only place their interest in safaris, but wish to actively contribute to the completion of Africa’s problems through individual aid. Most people do not want to donate money only; they like to help in an active way and directly in affected areas. Fruitful ties and connections as well as lasting friendships have frequently been established in these interactions. Countless aid projects have been created during holiday sojourns.

For this pleasant and hopeful trend, EQUATORIAL WILD SAFARIS has broadened its range of tours in order to integrate your social engagement through the visitation of different aid projects. You will come into contact with the various project coordinators as responsible persons and can decide how and to which extent you would like to help.

In the abundance of Ugandan aid projects we have selected several worthwhile programs and are co-working with the various organisations/institutions.

If you wish to visit one or more of the aid / humanitarian organisations, we will be more than willing to offer our professional service to you. This visit could of course be combined with a spectacular safari tour with an itinerary designed to meet your exact programme and needs.
