Scientific-Safaris in Uganda

Nature conservation marks the mission and philosophy of EQUATORIAL WILD SAFARIS. We do accept this as face value; EWS implements and takes immediate action and not just mere talk. Within the realms of possibility we try to help wherever we can. As an environmentally concerned and orientated tour operator in the East African region we assume high responsibility for nature, the local population and our tour guests.

We bear this responsibility and are truly convinced, that;

  1. the method of travelling in East Africa needs an alteration
  2. it is possible to combine protection of species and nature with economic efficient travel tours in a successful way
  3. natural resources need to be used more effective and must be ecologically compatible in order to be sustainable
  4. personal/individual initiatives are required

Africa offers resources which cannot be found anywhere else in this world. These include the world’s richest diversity of species of mammals, reptiles, fishes, amphibians, insects, birds and much more. Numerous species of trees and plants turn this continent into a real treasure chamber. What is hardly noted is the appearance of rare minerals, infrequent stone formations, precious natural resources and the fantastic fossils of prehistoric times, especially here in East Africa as the cradle of mankind.

Countless scientific projects have been created in East Africa to increase our knowledge, to understand various connections in order to conserve nature with its diversity of species, to solve ethical misunderstandings and to dig into unexplored resources. Amongst our own programs, EWS is committing itself to support these scientific projects as a part of the company’s contribution to environment and nature.

In our interest, we take the initiative to combine the important work of scientists with planed incoming tours of interested visitors. This is to the gain of both the scientific teams and the visitors as the teams receive some financial support added on to their often small budgets while the tourists gain deep insight in various areas of interest, much more than it would be possible in classic safari tours. EWS, with a part of the income, is therefore able to make a sustainable contribution to further these projects.

We have selected a variety of distinct research projects together with a small number of valuable programs to be sustained and encouraged through tourism. These are; the Uganda Large Predator Programme (ULPP), Geology in Uganda and Nature Conservation in Uganda. EWS has made different arrangements with the various scientific teams for enhancement of projects. We are proud that EQUATORIAL WILD SAFARIS as a tour operator has been authorised to accompany the team of scientists in the National Parks.

EWS management is currently in organised negotiations to establish further scientific safaris and tours with emphasis on: primates, East African history, archaeology, palaeontology and agricultural science.
