Rwenzori Mountains
A first description of the "Mountains of the Moon" as the Rwenzori Mountains are called was written in 150 b.C. By that time the mountain chain was imbedded in the kingdom of the Romanian-Greek Ptolemy-Dynasty in Alexandria.
The Rwenzori Mountains National Park is part of UNESCO's world-nature-heritage. Its highest peak, Point Margherita is with its 5.109 m the third-highest summit in Africa. The mountains offer everything that leaves mountaineers, researchers and hikers beaming with joy.
Mount Elgon
The volcanic Mount Elgon is with its 4.321 m the fifth-highest mountain in East Africa and is situated at the Uganda-Kenya border. It is a volcano that came to a still stand 10 million years ago and was higher than the Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya once. The boundaries of the National Park are the 1147 km² of the mountain-complex. Afro-mountainous vegetation is characteristic for the biggest part of this area and leads through huge moor- and tree land and bamboo forest. Botanists and friends of nature will get exited at the view of giant groundsels and lobelias and giant heather. Even the choice of animals that can be found is amazing!
Mgahinga Mountains
The Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in the south-western region of Uganda. The Park covers the northern sides of the three most northern volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains: Mount Muhavura (4.127 m), Mount Gahinga (3.474 m) and Mount Sabyinyo (3.645 m).
Mount Mgahinga Gorilla National Park lays in a distance of about 10 km from Kisoro Town and boarders the republic of Rwanda in the south and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west.
