Description
Kibale is one of Uganda’s most accessible main tropical forests with an immense range of animals and plants. The National Park is habitat to an astonishing 13 species of primates among which are the rare Red Colobus and the L’hoest's monkey. Kibale has one the world’s highest diversity of primates in one habitat.
Kibale’s main attraction is Chimpanzee tracking. That means that visitors have the unique possibility to observe habituated chimpanzees in their natural environment. They live in freedom but are used to the presence of human beings. It is fun to observe the way chimpanzees live, their playing, eating, sleeping and reproduction. As science has proved, these primates are more related with human beings than every other creature in this world. The genetic identity to a human being is not less than 98,4 %.
Numerous paths lead through the shadowy forest. Kibale is a paradise for botanists, those that enjoy watching butterflies and birds. At least 335 different bird species have been counted, endemic ones included.
The rare forest elephant (a small and hairy elephant other than the savannah elephant) can be seasonally found in one part of the National Park while other mammals such as buffaloes, the giant forest hog and half a dozen kinds of antelopes live here terrestrial.
