Situation
In the Albertine-Rift-Valley in south-western Uganda, near Kabale
Description
Such a wonderful sight of Verdant swathe. The steep edges of the Albertine-Rift-Valley are covered with this old tropical forest – one of the few that survived the last ice age in Africa – and are the habitat for about half of the population of the last Mountain Gorillas of the world.
Exchanging a glance with one of these gentle giants is among the most exciting adventures that those who love animals can experience in Africa. Nevertheless you should not undermine the rest of Bwindi's richness in being habitat to numerous different species of animals and plants that are the result of the forest’s amazing age and the altitude, 1.160 to 2.607 m.
The National Park has more than 90 mammals, including 11 primates most prominent of which is the Black-and-white Colobus monkeys with its long and hairy tail. Uncountable birds can be found within the forest and the area is one of Uganda’s richest for bird watching. The Albertine-Rift-Valley is blessed with 23 endemic species of birds.
Activities
Gorilla Tracking is the most attracting activity in Bwindi. To take part in this adventure it is necessary to book a gorilla permit in advance that allows you to reserve a place in a tour. This has to be done in the offices of the UWA-Office (Uganda Wildlife Authority) in Kampala. The number of daily permits is very limited and therefore the permits are very sought after. EWS is ready and able to help secure your permits on your request of course.
Until now there are four different groups of gorillas that are habituated and can be visited:
Mubare-Group
Habinyanja-Group
Rushegura-Group
Nkuringo-Group
Please find more information here:

Other activities include:
- Bird watching
- Forest walks most famous of which leads you to beautiful water falls

Visiting Time
All year round is a good visit. However, it is necessary to travel with a Four Wheel Drive especially during the rainy season.
