Day two – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Reserve (Gorilla Trekking)

Up to a hearty and bountiful breakfast, you would wish to fast forward your day but we recommend that you savour the moment because a long adventurous and mind blowing experience awaits as this could be one of your best wildlife holidays but first you have to report to the ranger station before 8am to receive guidelines from the rangers on how you will be able to make this anticipated experience a reality. You report with parked lunch at the station for registration. From here, the guides will take you through the jungles, pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, ferns and vines to track some of the world’s highly endangered mountain gorilla. Gorilla trekking is mostly done in tour groups. It is a great privilege to feel your presence in this forest because as a research centre it contains a variety of species as Bwindi alone contains 10 habituated mountain gorilla groups and the best part of the story is that half of the world’s mountain gorilla are found in this forest alone. There are over 324 species of trees, 23 Albertine rift valley endemic species, 90 species of mammal, 11 species of primates and 360 species of birds which means bird watching is a bonus. All this makes it the best holiday destination for groups. Chances are high that you will cross paths with these rare and unique bird species and what an adventure this will be. If you tell me this is not such a rich experience then there is 100% chance you have never come to Bwindi. It is an adrenaline experience

The gorilla trekking can entail some thorough climbing as well as hiking although when you come face to face with the tranquil yet potent mountain gorilla, watching them only a few meters away from you observing the group, the baby with the mothers, the gorillas partaking their every day routine just right in front of you is all very overwhelming. You can never find any mountain gorillas living in the zoo, save for just in this not large area of Africa where a number of the remnant mountain gorillas can be seen. Luckily because of too many efforts, this population is thriving and well surviving within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Reserve and visitors get the opportunity of observing them at close proximity. Time permitting; thereafter visit the famous batwa community for a community and cultural experience. You will learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Batwa, from brewing of the local beer to medicines made from this very forest. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Lodge (High end), or Silverback Lodge (Midrange) or Buhoma Community Bandas (Budget end) Meal Plan (Full Board)
